0) What a roadbook can contain
A roadbook can be created:
-
from your own route created in the planner (START / VIA / FINISH)
-
from an imported GPX file (route)
-
with added WP points (Waypoints):
CP / STOP / POI / warnings / tulips
A roadbook is always based on a combination of:
✅ route (line) + ✅ waypoints (markers / tulips)
A) Option 1 – Creating a route manually in the planner (recommended)
This option is best if you want to fine-tune the route precisely in a “rally-style” way.
A1) Create a new route
-
Open My Routes (planner with map)
-
Click New Route
-
Enter the Roadbook name
A2) Set the planning profile
-
Select Terrain Profile
Asphalt / Adventure / Offroad / Offroad+
Optionally enable:
-
Avoid highways
Leave Free route disabled (enable only if problems occur)
A3) Plot the route on the map
-
Switch to START → click on the map (start point)
-
Switch to VIA → add routing points (use a reasonable amount)
-
Switch to FINISH → click on the map (end point)
Recommendations for VIA points:
-
Fewer VIA points are better than too many
-
VIA points can always be added later
-
Too many VIA points may:
-
slow down planning
-
unnecessarily “break” the route
-
complicate later edits
-
A4) Add Waypoints (WP points) + Tulips
-
Switch to WAYPOINT mode
-
Click on the map to place a waypoint, then select the desired tulip (CP, STOP, POI…), and add an instruction if needed
When to add waypoints:
-
CP (checkpoint)
-
refueling
-
STOP (break, refreshments)
-
water crossing / hazard
-
landmarks (church, bridge, turn, etc.)
A5) Save the concept
-
Click Save
A6) Create the final version
-
Once the route is complete, create the Final version
A7) Generate the roadbook
-
In the Final section, click Roadbook
-
The roadbook is sent to the server for processing
A8) Receiving the finished roadbook
After processing is complete:
-
an email with the finished roadbook is sent
-
everything is also stored in the Archive on the server:
-
roadbook
-
GPX
-
B) Option 2 – Import GPX into the planner + add waypoints (WP)
This option is best if you already have a route (e.g. from Mapy.cz, Google Maps, etc.) and want to:
-
modify it
-
add waypoints / tulips
-
create a roadbook
B1) Import GPX into the planner
-
Open My Routes
-
Click Import GPX
-
Select the GPX file
B2) Choose the number of VIA points during import (important!)
During import, you will be asked to choose the number of VIA points (conversion to an editable route).
✅ Recommendation: choose fewer VIA points
-
more VIA points = more complex edits and higher risk of over-constraining the route
-
VIA points can be added later manually
Rule:
-
start with a lower number
-
refine the route by adding VIA points only where necessary
B3) Check the route after import
After import:
-
verify that the route matches expectations
-
adjust critical sections using VIA points
-
if routing fails in some places, use:
-
a different terrain profile
-
additional VIA points
-
or Free route
-
B4) Add WP points (Waypoints)
-
Switch to WAYPOINT
-
Select a tulip / symbol
-
Place waypoints on the map
B5) Save the concept
-
Click Save
B6) Final + Roadbook
-
Create Final
-
Click Roadbook
-
The system sends a job to the NAS
B7) Receiving the output
The finished roadbook:
-
is sent by email
-
is stored in the archive on the NAS
C) Option 3 – Import GPX with waypoints via “My Roadbooks” (fast server-side workflow)
This option is ideal if you already have a prepared GPX that contains:
-
the route
-
waypoints (WP points)
and you just want to upload it and send it for processing on the NAS without manual editing in the planner.
C1) Import via My Roadbooks
-
Open the My Roadbooks page
-
Select Import GPX (with WP points) (roadbook source import)
-
Choose the GPX file
C2) Send to server
-
After import, send the file for processing
C3) Completion and delivery
After processing:
-
the roadbook is sent by email
-
it is also stored in the server archive
D) What you always receive as output (after processing)
After the roadbook is generated, the following files are available in the archive:
-
Roadbook (final file for use / printing / navigation)
-
GPX (final GPX route)
E) Server archive – download anytime
Each user has access to a personal server archive (NAS).
E1) Purpose of the archive
-
storage for all generated roadbooks and GPX files
-
users can download at any time:
-
roadbook
-
GPX
-
E2) How to use the archive
-
Open the My Roadbooks section
-
Click the option to open the archive (read-only)
-
Download the finished files
F) Email delivery (automatic)
After completion, the roadbook system always:
-
sends the finished files to the user’s email
Users do not need to search for anything — everything is delivered automatically.
G) Time limit for stored roadbooks
Stored outputs are available in the archive for a limited time:
✅ roadbooks and GPX files are stored for 2 years
After this period, they may be automatically removed.
Recommendation:
-
download and store important roadbooks locally
-
ideally also keep the GPX files as a backup
Recommended workflows (best practice)
1) Planning from scratch (highest quality result)
➡️ Option A (manual planning in the planner)
Best control over both the route and waypoints
2) When you already have a route from Mapy.cz, Google Maps, or elsewhere
➡️ Option B (import GPX into the planner + add waypoints)
Fastest way to turn an external route into a roadbook
3) When you already have GPX and waypoints prepared
➡️ Option C (import via My Roadbooks + send to NAS)
Fastest “production” workflow without editing
